October President’s Report

President’s Report.

Welcome back to our Centre. Fall is definitely in the air and the Centre is busy running its programs.

I would like to begin by thanking all those who showed compassion and words of concern for my brother who was involved in a car accident, sustaining critical injuries and was hospitalized until September 27th. Your kind words and letters are greatly appreciated. This was the reason I could not personally attend the Open House.

Our Caretaker Al Warburton did a great job in making our Centre bright and cheery with signage to help direct traffic. We did some tinkering with the timelines for our Open House and it reflected positively in having more spectators available to watch the demonstrations this year. Thank you to ALL the volunteers who helped Shoji to make the pies and Nancy to help prepare the food for our Open House. A special thank you to Julie Gizzarelli for chairing the Open House.

We are encouraging the resurrection of a “Go” Club. Anyone wishing to join the new “Go” Club, please contact Nick Prince through the Judo Academy. They currently meet once a week on Tuesdays. It is good to see the Pottery Club expanding their membership to include younger members, thank you Unha for your continued support. It is also encouraging that the Martial Arts groups; Judo, Karate, and Aikido are continuing to increase in membership. We had a survey conducted recently regarding the Pool table. Due to the results from this survey we will be assembling the existing pool table shortly for ALL registered members to have access to it. We are establishing a sign-in procedure to keep track of the daily usage. Please do not forget to sign in. We are looking into bringing back Kendo. If you have interest please contact the President. Tai-Chi and the ever popular Zumba conditioning and exercise classes have been consistent and increasing in popularity as well. Our new PA System/Karaoke System is on display in the Lounge, (please contact Kelly and his group for more information). For those who are unaware…Shoji is continuing to offer Japanese cooking classes during the evenings please contact the centre to receive more information.

Our current interim Centre Secretary Fiona has made herself available during the hours from 10 am until 2pm. We have had many positive comments on how nice it is to speak to someone personally these days rather than leaving a message for someone to get back to them. Great work Fiona and thank you on behalf of the Centre.

Great News! Our submission for senior volunteer of the year was accepted and Mrs. Chiyoko Izumi will be officially receiving her award at Queen’s Park (October 13, 2010) from the Government. Congratulations Mrs. Izumi! It is well deserved.

The Centre has acknowledged the NAJC as an integral part of the Japanese Culture, by updating one of the front windows with the NAJC emblem and their mission statement. We are now in the process of also updating the CJCC emblem and our mission statement in the very near future.

I would also like to thank those who have agreed to facilitate the Centre’s News letter for October and on behalf of the Board members at the Centre we would like to thank Fiona for her efforts in maintaining the Newsletter until help was on its’ way. Thank you Fiona.

With many programs beginning we would like to wish Nobuko all the best in her leave of absence from the Board with her visit to Japan. We are happy to report that the Japanese language classes are continuing in her absence along with the ever popular Nihongo Kids so come out and bring your family and friends to our New Look Centre!

We are continuing to address the wishes and safety issues to make our Centre more accessible and user friendly. Shortly we will add an extra hand rail for those needing to climb the stairs to the offices on the second floor. We have already added speed safety bar exits in the Kitchen and Sports Room.

Please try to log onto our Centre’s web site to keep yourselves updated with news and events: www.hamiltoncjcc.ca A reminder that we offer free wifi at the Centre.

On behalf of your Board of Directors, I hope to see you come to your Centre and participate and engage in one or more of the programs available.

Kindest Regards,

Mitchell Kawasaki
