KENDO is now starting at the CJCC

We are pleased to announce the return of KENDO to the Hamilton CJCC!

Sensei  Yukio Yamada 5th Dan will be in charge of the Kendo Program.

Kendo (剣道, kendō), meaning “Way of The Sword“, is a modern Japanese martial art/sport of swordfighting using bamboo swords,or Shinai, and protective armor,called Bogu.Kendo descended from traditional swordsmanship (kenjutsu) which originated with the samurai class of feudal Japan

We will have an “Open House” for the Kendo program on Monday April 29th 7:00-9:30 pm. You will be able to see demonstrations of Kendo, sign up and purchase a “shinai” (bamboo Kendo sword) before the classes start.

Please contact Yamada Sensei at if you wish to buy a shinai at the open house. He would like to have an idea of how many shinai to bring. The Shinai are $30.

The classes will start on Monday May 6th @ 7:00-9:00 pm in the small gym. Classes wil continue on Mondays from 7:00-9:00 pm.


Fees are outlined below:

Hamilton CJCC membership (if you are not already a member)    $25 individual    $35 for family

Canadian Kendo Federation annual fees (insurance, tournaments and grading)  $35 year

Kendo fees are paid per semester (3 semeters a year) January, May and September

Adults                                  $120/semester

Youth (under 18)               $100/semester

Students                              $100/semester


Families wishing to practice with us receive a discount on their term fees. With 2 family members practicing, a 10% discount will be applied to the total amount. For families of 3 or more a 15% discount will be applied.

Parents, please know that Kendo qualifies for the Children’s Activity Tax Credit. We are happy to provide a receipts upon request.
