COVID-19 – Update on Centre Operations

Given the recent information on the COVID-19 situation, the Board of Directors of the Canadian Japanese Centre of Hamilton have decided to cease all operations at the CJCC effective immediately until April 6, 2020. This decision will be reviewed at that time and extended if necessary. All scheduled programs, events and meetings are being suspended until further notice.

The Canadian Japanese Cultural Centre is following the community based measures to mitigate the spread of coronavirus disease (COVID-19) recommended by the Government of Canada.

Some of the factors that were considered in making this decision included:

  • On March 11, 2020, the World Health Organization assessed COVID-19 as a pandemic.
  • Canada’s Public Health Service continues to assess the risk to Canadians from the COVID-19 virus as low, but warns that the situation could change rapidly.
  • The newest research shows that, in some cases, carriers that are asymptomatic can have a higher viral load and be more infectious. What this means is a carrier may show no signs of the infection and spread it unknowingly.
  • The Premier of Quebec has asked that all people over 70 to stay home, until further notice.

All public spaces in both Toronto and Hamilton have been shut down to help contain spread of the virus and the Board has decided to cease operations to keep our members and friends safe during this time.

Please keep washing your hands and limiting contact with each other.

Thank you for your understanding
